[ANR-SWRecyCo] SWIP Grant Info and Update on Asphalt Shingle Collection

SWIP Grants 2020
Information on applying for Solid Waste implementation Grants for 2020 will be coming out soon.
We are pleased that we will be able to offer the same amount of funding as last year- $614,000.00- which will result in awards to each SWME being similar to last year's.


MMP Requirements for Asphalt Shingle Collection:
Due to an inadequate number of asphalt shingle recycling facilities in the region, and underdeveloped markets for the recycled asphalt shingles product in VT, SWMEs will not be required to establish collection for the recycling of asphalt shingles by July 1 ,2020.
In addition, SWMES will not be required to set up collection for calendar year 2020 (interim MMP year).
During 2020, the Solid Waste Program will work to encourage the establishment of in-state shingle recycling facilities, or facilitate transport to out-of-state recycling facilities, and will continue to develop markets for RAS.
The goal of these efforts is to require statewide shingle collection by July 2021.
The Solid Waste Program will continue to partner with VTRANS and municipalities on the use of ground asphalt shingles in gravel roads and will explore other options for this material.
Please note Act 175(Architectural Waste Law) statute requirements are still in effect for regions that are with 20 miles of an architectural waste facility that will accept asphalt shingles for recycling.
