*Free Motivational Interviewing Training Events in April to Vermont AHS
staff, & Mental Health & Medical Providers*
*Using SBIRT/Motivational Interviewing to effectively engage patients with
chronic disease and substance use risks*
- April 24th, Burlington
The first training is with Two UVM Family Medicine Doctors and MI trainers
Richard Pinckney and Alan Rubin - The training is focused on working with
clients to help motivate them toward wellness and comorbid chronic disease
and substance use/mood disorders such as depression or anxiety. The focus
will be on learning and practicing motivational interviewing skills to help
create a collaboration with the client to help activate to take charge of
their own health.
This training is free on April 24th, at 9-3 pm in Burlington at VDH 108
Cherry street.
*Effective use of Motivational Interviewing to engage and help clients who
use marijuana, two offerings.*
- April 30th, Waterbury
- May 1st, Rutland
The second training is a motivational interviewing training with skills
practice primarily focused on helping clients change substance use
especially marijuana use risks. The trainer is a nationally known MI expert
from Portland Maine and will help providers learn and use skills to advance
their MI practice. The trainer is Stephen Andrew.
This training is offered twice from 9 to 4pm — Waterbury at the Town Hall
on April 30th and the same training is offered again in Rutland on May 1st
at the Asa Bloom state building where VDH has its office.

Applications are in for CEs from OPR and also AHEC.
