Dear Friends,
I hope this note finds you well. I write regarding a series of trainings funded by the Vermont Department of Health and coordinated and deployed by the Center for Health and Learning, "Brief Emergency Medicine Interventions to Prevent Opioid Overdoses <https://www.eventbrite.com/e/virtual-brief-interventions-to-prevent-opioid-overdoses-tickets-133223355643>”.
"Brief Emergency Medicine Interventions to Prevent Opioid Overdoses" provides training allowing Emergency Medicine associates to have needed and critical conversations with people who are at risk related to opioid use. The training has particular relevance and was designed for Emergency Department staff, Emergency Medical Services staff and volunteers, and Department of Corrections personnel from parole departments.
I would appreciate it if you could please forward information about these training opportunities to your contact list. And please do feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. More information below, and link to register here <https://www.eventbrite.com/e/virtual-brief-interventions-to-prevent-opioid-overdoses-tickets-133223355643>.
Thank you!
Best,
Sara Haimowitz, Project Manager

Effects of opioid use have far-reaching implications for the individual, family, workplace, community, and the health care system.
The training will introduce or refresh participants’ SBIRT skills (Screening Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment). It will also provide an overview of motivational interviewing techniques, teach about their use with people who cope with Opioid Use Disorder, and give opportunities to "rehearse" those techniques, considering a variety of scenarios that might be faced by EMS and Emergency Department staff and parole officers.
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this training participants will:
Have increased confidence and ability to deal with opioid use disorder in a compassionate way
Be able to differentiate between advice giving and motivational interviewing in the context of addiction
Be able to recognize, intervene and refer to treatment those suffering and in need
Who Should Attend?
This training is designed for:
Emergency Medicine professionals including EMS and other First Responders
Medical Doctors
Physician Assistants
Nurse Practitioners
Health Care Practice Managers and Directors
